Christine Botha is appointed to the SABPP Board

At a recent board meeting of The South African Board of People Practices (SABPP) it was decided to elevate the role of their Ethics Committee, chaired by Christine Botha, to board level, given the importance of ethical matters in accordance with the King III Code of Governance for South Africa.

Christine’s appointment to the board was announced by SABPP chair, Elizabeth Dhlamini-Khumalo, at the launch of Ethics in HR management – A guide for HR professionals and line managers, compiled by Christine and the Ethics Committee.

Christine, her deputy chair, Pauls Gibbons and the rest of the Ethics Committee are tirelessly working to provide tools and practical assistance to HR professionals in dealing with ethical dilemmas within the workplace.

The Ethics Committee’s intention and ultimate goal is to stimulate healthy debate on the ethical dilemmas facing HR professionals and to jointly explore practical solutions which will not only form the basis for regular updates of this guide, but will transform our collective workplaces, human resources and communities in order for ethical behaviour to become the norm within which we operate.

ethicsinhr“The King III Code of Governance for South Africa adequately highlights the importance of ethics at board, management and staff levels and, in particular, the need for an ethical culture. However, to think that an ethical code in itself will instill a culture of ethics is short-sighted. Thus, the point of departure in this guide is that despite increased corporate and government efforts to address ethics, people are at the heart of all unethical behaviour and practices. No matter how sound your systems, all corporate scandals start with either employees or managers, in other words, the human resources of an organisation.”
Marius Meyer, CEO of the SABPP
